Explanations

I was asked to provide a number of different people with explanations about my writing. I’ve never been good at editing. I just write and someone else must package it nicely while I move on to the next topic. I have thought a lot about the wisdom of such an approach. I formed a dream team at the beginning of 2009 and I was so blessed to be working with these young, creative, enthusiastic, inspiring people. They really taught me a lot, were a big part of my journey in 2009 and became close friends. But if the truth be told, they just didn’t have enough experience of business or life to accomplish what needed to be done. One of those things was a professional, regularly updated, visually attractive blog that would accurately reflect all the work I do, who I am and the revelations I want to share with “seekers of truth” everywhere. Thekingdom footsteps was a first amateur attempt and it was alright for the first couple of months while we found our feet, but then it just didn’t do the job and we scrapped it. Such was the fate of many projects my dream team and I began. Now they’re all over the place, all doing compeltely different things, no longer a synergistic team but still very much an excellent “think tank” that could still be brought together for a very specific, short-term, well-financed initiative.

I had to start this article with that background because a lot of material I have written and wanted to share in 2009 just never got properly formatted and packaged and is still sitting on the shelf. Honestly, I just don’t know where to start when it comes to taking all this to market. The environment I work in complicates the matter significantly. Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump’s book “Why we want you to be rich” clarified so many things for me and one of those things was the challenge an entrepreneur faces when working in a poor environment. Lesotho is definitely too poor an environment to realise my vision in its entirety, so I had to start thinking about moving projects to South Africa. That is really sad for me. I came to Lesotho two years ago believing God for a major breakthrough that would serve this country. It’s such a beautiful country, with so much to offer.. but poverty, Aids and a rural way of life just make it too difficult to really significantly impact businesses, communities and churches.

At the same time that I was reflecting and planning around these issues, I was going through a lot of emotional and personal “stuff”. I won’t go into that here- my e-mail letters to friends have helped me come to a place of peace knowing that everything in life is ultimately about our growth. All I’ll say here is that I’m grateful for the difficult situations and valleys now because it helped me develop strength of character, a deeper relationship with God, more meaningful friendships and the ability to reach out to people in similar situations. So it’s true what the Bible says: ” All things work together for the good of those who love God”.

This of course leads into the next explanation: What kind of Christian am I? It takes people a while to figure this out because after becoming born-again 3 and half years ago, I didn’t start preaching hellfire and damnation while privately struggling with my own vices the way most born-again Christians do. I went straight into the mission field and got straight to the heart of issues facing corporate Christianity. Now, looking back, this was not the right path for me. I took huge risks, dragged my small children into environments that are not appropriate for kids to be exposed to and jumped to conclusions based on an inadequate knowledge and understanding of the spiritual landscape. However, as one teacher reminded me last month, this became a form of training that gave me a very good all-round grasp of the issues, compelexities and angles in corporate Christianity. Also, the mission field made it possible for me to do things I would never have been able to do in  large, formal church atmosphere because I was there responding to urgent, immediate needs and no one questioned my “qualifications” or ability to do the job. So I had two years of adventure that I will always be grateful for. As for what kind of Christian that makes me, I don’t know and now embrace the fact that God doesn’t much care. He used me on many different occasions to complete many different tasks because I was there on the scene, ready and willing to do whatever had to be done and open to new experiences and teaching. At the same time, I have never lost my reverence for all other spiritual paths. Having walked many of them before coming to Christ, I am absolutely convinced that they all provide value of some kind. Christians argue that being “seeker sensitive” in this way dilutes the gospel message. All I know is that I spend one day a week with Europeans and Indians who do not profess any particular faith but are open to hearing whatever I share with them, two days a week with radical Christian youth who are completely sold out to Jesus but are also set to become internet millionaires, two days a week in church observing all the structures and processes of corporate Christianity as I volunteer on projects, one day a week giving spiritual coaching to a wide spectrum of clients and the rest of the time reflecting back on and writing about my adventures in the last 2 years and doing activities with my kids. I feel free in many ways; I have attained inner peace; I love all the work I do and don’t worry about money but somehow have all of my basic needs met- but most of all, I have a very clear, compelling vision of the future that keeps me moving forward. It’s just that my vision is huge and spans soci-economic, religious, spiritual, financial, entrepreneurial and I.T arenas. So obviously it’s going to take time to manifest.

In the meantime, how I communicate what I do and what I’m about is by giving talks. I give talks in churches, in my network marketing organisation, to small businesses and in stratgey forums created for charity projects. The topics are always “answers” to a specific issue/ need that has arisen. It took me a very long time to receive the blessing of being the person who brings answers to particular situations. It’s a huge responsibility but knowing that I’m really just the messenger or channel and God is the one with the answers helps me remain humble, grounded, grateful and open to whatever Spirit is doing.

Receiving this blessing opened up 9 possible “avenues” I could take in 2010.

Avenue 1: Convert a guest house into a retreat centre and launch my “Spiritual quest” prgramme (vision quests for Christ-conscious individuals and groups)

Avenue 2: Continue working in the mission field in Lesotho. volunteering with churches, doing fund-raising for charities and providing a Family Counseling service.

Avenue 3: Develop the property my church has bought in a rural village on the border between Lesotho and South Africa for youth camps, a Childrens’ ministry, faith tourism initiatives and hosting visiting missionaries from other countries.

Avenue 4: Establish a full-time spiritual coaching and energy facilitation practice and use all my writing to design and develop workbooks to accompany each process

Avenue 5: Go back to being a suburban Home Executive focusing on my family, my network marketing business and getting at least 1 of my unfinished novels edited and published.

The other 4 avenues are more long-term, depend on considerable financing that is not currently available and really tie all the various projects and initiatives I’ve been involved in together.

I’d really love to get feedback/ comments/ sugegstions on how people would go about making a decision about which avenue to pursue.

What is helping me a lot is the Global 21-day Fast that many evangelical churches are particpating in. This si really what I was asked to provide explanations about but the readers who usually visit this site would have wondered what such an article is doing here- and the new readers who are coming with fixed notions of spirituality would wonder why I am posting on this site. Having hopefully cleared up those questions, I can now tell people about the 21-day fast and how I am approaching it.

Evangelical churches across the world recognise the need for radical, lasting, positive changes in alls ectors. It is a tall order to pray for such changes and fasting helps people to remain focused on releavnt issues without getting bogged down with technicalities. So there are a lot of prayer points for this particular fast that vary from region to region. Churches are starting with political situations, then moving on to economic, business, family and finally personal issues. How each church structures the prayer points is really a matter of what works for them. The important thing is not to get too legalsitic and rigid in setting up prayer meetings and groups, otherwise people will fizzle out long before the 21 days is up. As for exactly how people choose to fast, that is really a matter of personal choice.

This was Part 1. depending on the level of interest and further questions asked, Part 2 will focus on individual ways of particpating in this movement and personal insights I have gained so far.

Blessings and much gratitude and love to the mystic consciosuness team for giving me this space to share the explanations.
