Questions

“How do I get myself outta this fuckin misery?” a young man once pondered.

What came from the contemplation of that question was something vastly unexpected. Sitting in long bouts of silence, observing the misery, the young man began to see a common theme throughout the misery that spoke to points of reference.

Speaking outloud to himself, he would often say, “live in the world, not of the world. As I refer my identity to an image of world appearances, I am referencing myself to that contextual construct; and as I refer my identity to that which lies beyond the appearances of worldly mental projections, I Am referencing a Self far more vast than a construct of worldly contexts.”

Contemplating this injunction further, the young man began to notice that the experience of misery first arises as a mental projection in the form of a thought in the mind, a self-generated mental construct arising from a context confined by worldly referencing.

“If I believe myself to be only a thing of this world, my perspective is then subjugated to living of the world; however, if I recognize the awareness that transcends worldly identification, I Am free from that constraint and simply live in the world.”

Not yet for sure if this was true freedom, he began practicing the art of living in the world with involvement while being detached from the worldly context. With this movement of involved detachment, he began to notice a sense of peace would arise along with it. In observing this peace arise as the mind released its attachment to things of perception-gone-awry, he observed the nature of value judgment.

“I can believe this thing is more valuable than that, and the reason I use to justify this as being more valuable than that is a reason I have constructed based on the perspective I’m using to see the world. If I cannot look on a pile of shit and a pile of money as being of equal value, attachment has entered the mind and given precedence to one or the other. Both money and shit have a use, one for fertilizer to nourish the soil that grows the plants, one for a medium of exchange in market commerce. Both have there place and both have there function, and if I value one more than the other I have allowed my mind to place a precedence of value in the realm of worldly context. Until I see they are of no value into true freedom, my mind is not free.”

In seeing this, he began to visualize a pile of money and pile of shit so as to observe the mind in its response to this vision. While observing, he noticed that the mind was unusually silent, and in the silence, a feeling of ecstatic vibration began to flow through the heart.

And as the silence of mind continued, the clarity of living in the world fully entered the mind. “The world has its constructs and things, and all have a function to fulfill, and none is more or less valuable than the next. In the instant I give precedence of one thing over the other, I have entered into living of the world. However, if I simply use the things of the world for what they are used for while fulfilling my function of transparent-Self-expression I Am living in the world.”

And with this recognition of spirituality preceding materiality and materiality arising from spirituality, peace remained constant in the mind and heart resulting in an outcome of constant peaceful experience.
